Texas A&M University College of Medicine, in partnership with Korn Ferry, invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Head, Department of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology.
Texas A&M University is one of the highest-ranked public universities in the nation, has a student population of just over 75,000 from all 50 states and 124 countries, is a top 20 research enterprise, and is one of only 17 institutions in the nation to hold the triple designation as a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university. Since its inception, the College of Medicine has embraced the land-grant service mission of Texas A&M, striving to produce well-trained physicians and medical scientists for areas in need, particularly for primary and clinical care in rural settings, while offering affordable medical education. Today, the College of Medicine is leading the way for 21st century medicine through research, clinical care, medical education, community impact, and innovation, and together, the University and College of Medicine are working to improve healthcare through transformative education, innovative research, and team-based care delivery.
With campuses in four Texas locations, the College of Medicine’s mission and vision remain the same – improve the health and well-being of the people of Texas through excellence in education, research, and health care delivery, and develop the innovators and leaders in medicine and biomedical research who will transform American medicine. Critical to their success in strengthening cutting-edge research and capabilities, particularly interdisciplinary approaches to discovery and innovation, is the recruitment of a new Department Head of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology.

They will nurture a collaborative training environment with strong mentorship that fosters intellectual creativity, instils passion in the next generation of scientists to perform fundamental basic and translational research, and promotes commercialization of research discoveries and faculty entrepreneurship. Candidates must be operationally astute, highly knowledgeable about opportunities in research, and familiar with recent advances and challenges in all disciplines housed within the Department. Collaborating with both the basic health sciences, clinical partners, and other Texas A&M University Colleges, the Department Head will oversee the department’s ambitious goals in research, education and service, and manage a rich portfolio of both faculty and department resources.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine, the Department Head will be a highly visible, collaborative, and servant institutional leader that supports University and College strategic goals in partnership with other department heads, College academic leaders, and University research leadership. They will be a passionate advocate for the Department’s faculty, graduate students, scientists, and staff, and will foster a culture of collaboration, integrity, trust, inclusion, shared accountability, and mission focus. Qualified candidates will possess an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or DVM (or equivalent); be eligible for appointment as a Full Professor; a demonstrated track record of academic leadership and expertise in host pathogen interactions, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology and/or immunology; a distinguished record of outstanding scientific achievements, as evidenced by influential publications, sustained extramural peer-reviewed research funding, and national and international recognition; and a track record of program development and faculty and trainee recruitment and development.
