Towson University is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral teaching Fellow in the Department of Biological Sciences. This position is to support the research program of Dr. Elana Ehrlich (95%) and the Bridges programs. The research focuses on host-pathogen interactions within the context of Kaposi’s sarcoma herpesvirus infection, focusing on interactions with the ubiquitin proteasome system. The Fellow will mentor undergraduate and graduate students, contribute to the research goals of the lab, and support day-to-day lab operations. The Fellow will participate in grant and publication writing in addition to presenting at local and international research and mentoring conferences. The Fellow will have the opportunity to teach an undergraduate and/or graduate class within their area of expertise as an additional adjunct faculty assignment. The fellow will also spend 5% of their effort supporting the Bridges programs, providing mentoring and program management experience.. Duties may include scheduling and coordinating cohort meetings, recruitment events, and program activities.
This position is designed for individuals who hold a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology, Virology, Cancer biology or a related field and intend to pursue academic careers at primarily undergraduate institutions. Responsibilities of this position include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research projects and performing research and laboratory managerial tasks in support of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Elana Ehrlich (95%) and supporting the day-to-day running of the Bridges programs (5%). The individual will have the opportunity to teach graduate or undergraduate courses in their area of expertise as an additional adjunct faculty assignment. We seek applicants who are passionate about undergraduate education with some classroom and/or laboratory teaching experience, are highly motivated and capable of leading a project and training undergraduates in designing and performing experiments, collecting and interpreting data, troubleshooting and solving problems in the lab, preparing publications, and presenting results at conferences.
This position is expected to last 12 months with an up to two-year renewal option contingent on performance.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences or a related field.
Expertise in common cell and molecular biology experimental methodology.
A desire to work with undergraduate and MS level students
Degree in the appropriate field awarded no more than five (5) years from the initial date of appointment.
Candidates are desired who are enthusiastic about mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
