Seeking virologists interested in the nexus of human microphysiological models, virology, multiomics and artificial intelligence

(Ref#: 36449)

Wake Forest School of Medicine

  • Post Doctoral Position - Academic
  • Research Scientist
Job Type/Arrangement:
  • Full Time
  • Fellowship

The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) at the Wake Forest School of Medicine is seeking at least two post-doctoral fellows and/or staff scientists with demonstrated experience in virology to support research into virus-host responses in three-dimensional human microphysiological models of upper airway, skin and oral mucosa. Human tissue models will be challenged with a wide range of respiratory and dermatotropic viruses, including various strains of dengue, vaccinia, mpox, influenza, RSV, parainfluenza and adenovirus. Biochemical, molecular and multiomic responses to infection will be quantified using methods designed for complex tissue models. Host responses to different viral doses will be evaluated and compared over time using traditional bioinformatic approaches. In collaboration with the Wake Forest Center for Artificial Intelligence, these data will be applied to AI/ML models to identify predictive markers of virus infection and pathogenicity.  This project is a collaboration among 8 research teams at Wake Forest School of Medicine, including faculty in WFIRM, Dept of Microbiology, Center for Artificial Intelligence and Center for Precision Medicine.
