The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington in Seattle serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine. The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, night shift, MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST 2 in Renton.


  1. Develop and evaluate new procedures and instrumentation including performance of assay validation experiments and writing validation reports.
  2. Train Medical Laboratory Scientist Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) 1's and Trainees in performance of new assays.
  3. Perform quality control of laboratory assays on daily and weekly basis.
  4. Utilize statistical software such as Levy-Jennings charges for quality control of assays.
  5. Train and act as a resource, providing advice and expertise to MLS 1's and Trainees in quality control and troubleshooting of instruments and procedures.
  6. Revise and submit updated clinical laboratory test procedures for approval.
  7. Write and revise laboratory protocols and guidelines.
  8. Schedule orientation and training of new employees, post-doctoral fellows, residents, students, and other health care professionals; prepare teaching materials; submit written evaluation of students.
  9. Assists Manager or MLS Lead with preparation of work schedules including coverage for vacations, evenings, weekends, and on-call of a laboratory shift, section, or division.
  10. Assist Manager or MLS Lead in coordinating educational programs for staff and students and provide feedback on performance.
  11. Inventory laboratory reagents and consumable items; submit supply orders for approval.
  12. Perform duties of Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 or equivalent experience.
  13. Perform related duties as required.

Education Requirement:
Accredited Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experience, AND current Medical Laboratory Scientist certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent certifying organization or certification with specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division, AND two years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 or equivalent experience.
