A position is open for the study of the antibody response to HIV, SARS-CoV-2, and other viruses. Specific interests of the laboratory include understanding the mechanisms that underlie broad neutralization of HIV and paths to inducing broad and durable antibody responses in humans. The laboratory uses a variety of techniques to understand the basis of a broad and potent HIV-specific response.
The duties of this position include the following:
• Collaborate with the principal investigator on a portfolio of projects focused on the induction of virus-specific neutralizing antibodies for influenza virus, HIV, and SARS-CoV-2
• Lead a group including the candidate and two post-baccalaureate IRTA students to conduct experiments
• Isolate human monoclonal antibodies and perform detailed studies of their mechanism of action
• Conduct studies in experimental animals designed to induce virus-specific neutralizing antibodies
• Lead studies of neutralizing antibodies induced by experimental vaccines in humans
• Conduct studies of molecular structure and antibody evolution to be carried out in collaboration with others with expertise in structural biology
• Develop, draft, and edit manuscripts for publication
• Train students and post-docs in the methods and theory associated with the related projects
The person selected will work in a very fast-moving field, with generous research support, access to cutting-edge facilities, and two post-baccalaureate students. Expertise in B-cell immunology, flow cytometry, production of viruses or virus-like particles, and bioinformatics is desirable.
Interested candidates must possess a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. and a strong record of research experience and productivity. The candidate must have at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience in molecular biology and extensive experience with cloning and expression of proteins.
