A Research Scientist I position is available immediately in the lab of Dr. Patricia Aguilar in the Department of Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to participate in studies of the pathogenesis and development of novel medical countermeasures against vector-borne and zoonotic viruses. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to not only participate in the ongoing projects, but also develop new projects, and is expected to be knowledgeable in standard virology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and immunology techniques, and have experience with both in vitro and animal studies. Previous experience in BSL-3 and animal BSL-3 laboratories is highly desirable and working in those environments will be a requirement of the position.
The research scientist will establish research objectives and methodology and designs procedures requiring a highly developed technical skill and may lead or train students and other research staff. She/he will conduct research projects and performs analysis and interpretation of data. Effective skills in communication and writing for publications as author and co-author is a requirement of the position.
Preferred Qualifications (Work experience, skills/competencies, education, license/certification)
Prior experience in biosafety level (BSL-3) 3 and animal BSL-3 is a highly desirable. Prior experience with Virology, Molecular Biology, and Immunology are highly desirable as well.
