The Ahlquist laboratory (Morgridge Institute for Research and McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research) is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research associates to join our studies of the molecular mechanisms of hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication and host interactions. HBV causes most liver cancers, the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide, and encodes a remarkable array of functions with broad implications for disease, cell biology and biotechnology. Outstanding project opportunities are available based on strong foundations in our research and that of our collaborators. These include new roles of key HBV proteins, new facets of HBV–host interactions, and further dimensions in HBV molecular biology. Our studies in these areas are developing and integrating new approaches in molecular genetics, biochemistry, cutting-edge light and cryo-electron microscopy, computational biology, and other areas.

Candidates should have a PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology or another relevant area. They should also have a productive experimental record, strong initiative and a clear desire to spearhead innovative, substantial research advances. Excellent communications skills and the ability to work with a diverse research team are essential. Prior experience with viruses is appreciated but not required.
