Job-Specific Responsibilities

The Department of Microbiology seeks a creative and accomplished individual to ensure the success of the department by providing top-level organizational support for the department’s research and education missions. The Director of Research Administration reports to the Chair of the Department, with considerable independence, and is a trusted, strategic partner. The Director is a key point of connectivity and communication between the department faculty and School administrators. You will have a clear understanding of the department’s research, educational, and resource needs (e.g. laboratory space, funding, technology, personnel) and of the requirements of the School, University and major financial partners. You will be expected to work creatively to solve problems in each of these areas, and work with the department Chair to manage faculty searches and negotiate faculty offers, monitor the faculty’s academic and career trajectories, and work closely with the Office of Faculty Affairs on promotions and appointments. You will also work effectively with HMS and Harvard University administrative offices, including serving on committees and collaborating with other senior administrative staff.
