Postdoctoral position at UBC - Molecular evolution of SARS-CoV-2 under selective pressure

This interdisciplinary project will be jointly supervised by Prof. Steven S. Plotkin in the Departments of Physics and Astronomy and Genome Sciences and Technology, and Prof. Eric Jan in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. We are interested in the evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, how it may circumvent the action of antibodies, and how to design antibodies that prevent escape from neutralization. This project is part of a large, interdisciplinary collaboration of virologists, immunologists, structural and computational biologists to develop preemptive tests, vaccines, and therapies for future strains of SARS-CoV-2.
The postdoctoral research fellow will be involved in both pseudotyping assays as well as BSL-3 studies of CoV-2 infection. They should hold a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, physical chemistry or a related field. Previous experience in virology and/or immunology is desired. The PDF will be expected to have an enthusiastic and vigorous work ethic, and to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment as part of an active scientific research team. This position is intended to be a two-year term, with renewal after one year. We particularly encourage qualified applications from members of underrepresented groups and minorities.
