The New York State Department of Health, Wadsworth Center, is seeking an outstanding scientist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to establish a competitive, extramurally funded research program with a focus on zoonotic and/or vector-borne pathogens (bacterial and viral). Specific areas of interest include studies on the mechanisms of transmission, vector and host-pathogen interactions, vector biology, molecular virology, and viral pathogenesis. Applicants that contribute to the Wadsworth Center’s current research efforts in infectious diseases and host biology are encouraged to apply.
The Wadsworth Center (www.wadsworth.org) is the most comprehensive state public-health laboratory in the country, and includes a dynamic research atmosphere focused on infectious, genetic, and environmental diseases and their impact on human health. The successful applicant will join a highly interactive group of research scientists applying genomics, structural biology, immunology, microbiology, pathogen surveillance and disease ecology to study the biology of pathogens in both model and pathogenic organisms. Applicants employing innovative, cutting-edge techniques in these areas are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will receive a start-up package, 12-month salary, and access to outstanding core facilities, including BSL-2/3 laboratories, ACL-2/3 insectary facilities, and AAALAC-accredited BSL2/3 animal space. Optional joint academic appointments are provided through the Department of Biomedical Sciences, based in the University at Albany’s College of Integrated Health Sciences.
Minimum Qualifications: A doctorate in the appropriate field and three years of professional research experience, or a master’s degree and five years of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications: A doctorate and relevant postdoctoral research experience is preferred.
