Postdoctoral Intramural Research Fellowship Position Available

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), one of the largest institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), conducts and supports a global program of research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases.

The Division of Intramural Research within NIAID is recruiting for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship position with shared lab placement between the Prion Cell Biology Unit, located at NIAID’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, Montana (1 year), and the Experimental Immunotherapeutics Unit (EIU), located at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland (2 years).

The successful candidate will undertake a research program using human cerebral organoids to replicate key neuropathological features of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, an opportunistic infection of the brain caused by the ubiquitous human polyomavirus JCPyV.

Situated in the Bitterroot Valley of southwestern Montana, RML offers state-of-the-art facilities for genomics, proteomics, DNA microarray, electron microscopy, and biological imaging in a recently renovated laboratory.

The NIH Clinical Center, located on the NIH main campus in Bethesda, Maryland, is the largest research hospital in the world. EIU focuses on rare neuroimmunological diseases and specializes in translating basic discoveries to early-phase clinical trials.
