Position Description: The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Iowa invites applications for one full-time Clinical Instructor (non-tenure track) position with faculty fringe benefits. This teaching position is a 12-month appointment and renewable every three years. The preferred start date is July 1, 2024. Applications are sought from candidates with experience or a demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching of basic microbiology and an associated laboratory, both with an emphasis on the relevance of microbiology to human health and diseases.

The selected candidate will direct and teach lectures and the associated laboratory of Microbiology and Human Health (MICR:3164) in both Spring and Fall semesters. The course is currently only offered in Spring, but due to increased enrollment, it will also be offered in Fall beginning in 2024. The candidate may also participate in other courses and activities in the Department depending on experience and teaching need. Duties of this position include course development, teaching, and professional development.

Education Requirements: A PhD degree in Microbiology or a closely related discipline is required.

Required and Desired Qualifications: Laboratory-based research experience is required. Demonstrated potential in the following areas: teaching excellence, teaching across multiple content areas, teaching across multiple formats (lecture, laboratory, etc.), engaging students using creative pedagogy, and enhancing the learning experience of students from all backgrounds.
