The Department of Biological Sciences (https://biology.charlotte.edu/) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) seeks applicants for tenure-track at the Associate Professor level for the Irwin Belk Distinguished Professorship beginning Aug 15th, 2024. The Irwin Belk Distinguished Professorship in Biological Sciences was established by Mr. Irwin Belk to support a leader in the study of the molecular mechanisms of human disease. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in the biological sciences or related fields, an established history of funding, and an excellent record of innovative research and academic scholarship. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and graduate curricula. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose research complements departmental research foci (including Virology/Immunology/Microbiology).

 

The Department of Biological Sciences is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary department with state-of-the-art facilities, and multiple research labs are funded through R01-level NIH grants as well as large NSF grants. The departmental research activities interconnect with other academic units of the newly formed College of Science. Faculty-driven research relies on dedicated facilities and shared state-of-the-art equipment platforms. The department supports BA, BS, graduate certificate, MS, and PhD programs with a diverse body of faculty and students, and prides itself with student hands-on training. Currently, the department is home to over a thousand undergraduate biology majors and 80 graduate students.

Established in 2023, the College of Science provides a cohesive community that houses the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics and Optical Science.
