The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Physiology (any area broadly related to physiology and to studying molecular mechanisms of human disease using any model organism) position beginning August 15th, 2024. Applicants with research interests complementing the Department of Biological Sciences research foci, including Immunology/Microbiology/Virology, will be preferred. The candidate is expected to have a  record of postdoctoral training and peer-reviewed publications, the potential to secure extramural funding, and a commitment to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and mentor a diverse student population.

The Department of Biological Sciences is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary department with state-of-the-art facilities, and multiple research labs are funded through R01-level NIH grants as well as large NSF grants. The departmental research activities interconnect with other academic units of the newly formed College of Science. Faculty-driven research relies on dedicated facilities and shared state-of-the-art equipment platforms. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program that provides a supportive environment for students.

The department supports BA, BS, graduate certificate, MS, and PhD programs with a diverse body of faculty and students and prides itself on student hands-on training. Currently, the department is home to over a thousand undergraduate biology majors and 80 graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department of Biological Sciences, including through the teaching of Animal/Human Physiology and participation in the development/implementation of undergraduate and graduate curricula. Established in 2023, the College of Science provides a cohesive community that houses the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics and Optical Science.
