Microbial Oncogenesis Tenure Track Faculty Position

Michigan State University

The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. We anticipate an appointment at the Assistant Professor level, but highly qualified applicants at all ranks will also be considered. We seek applicants who use state-of-the-art techniques and model systems to study cancer biology, immunology, and/or immunotherapy associated with microbes such as tumor virology, oncolytic virus/viral oncotherapy, bacterial agents of cancer, and cancer microbiome/virome. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research complements existing strengths in the Department (https://mmg.natsci.msu.edu) and the MSU Cancer Research Group (https://cancer.msu.edu) across the Colleges of Human Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, and Veterinary Medicine. The ideal applicant will be an outstanding investigator with exceptional promise, a proven record of research achievement, and the ability to attract funding, who will contribute to the highly interactive and collaborative environment in MSU and our unique partnership as Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences (https://www.henryfordmsu.org/).

The successful applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vigorous, extramurally funded research program in their area of expertise and contribute to teaching undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional students associated with the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, DO, DVM, or equivalent degree, with postdoctoral experience and a strong record of research productivity and lead author publications in peer-reviewed journals. Evidence of ability to obtain stage-appropriate funding is desired. A generous startup package, modern laboratory space, competitive salary, and excellent benefits will be provided.

Applications should be submitted electronically to http://careers.msu.edu (posting #898285) that includes the following documents:

  1. Cover letter
  2. Curriculum vitae
  3. Description of research accomplishments and plans for an independent research program (up to 3 pages)
  4. Statement of teaching and mentoring, including experiences (up to 1 page)
  5. Statement of past and planned contributions to inclusive diversity (up to 1 page)
  6. Contact information of at least three referees

Application review will begin 10/10/2023 and will continue until the position is filled. Additional information can be obtained from the executive assistant to the search committee at vandeurn@msu.edu.
