Description:

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison welcomes applications for faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Candidates of any rank with a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree and a strong interest in advancing our understanding of any aspect of the molecular mechanisms that govern living systems are invited to apply. The successful candidate will join a dynamic faculty with broad interests in the biochemical sciences.


The Department has an exceptional scientific environment including national centers in cryo-EM and NMR, and facilities and expertise in mass spectrometry, crystallography, high-throughput sequencing, computation, biophysical instrumentation, imaging, and animal care. These departmental strengths are complemented by a UW-Madison ecosystem that boasts remarkable breadth in biological, chemical, and engineering sciences across the campus.


In addition to establishing a creative, independent, and extramurally funded research program, faculty are expected provide a strong training environment for pre- and post-doctoral trainees, participate in our undergraduate biochemistry teaching program, and contribute to service in the Department, College, University, and beyond.


The position is an academic (9-month) tenure-track (junior) or tenured (mid-career or senior) faculty position. It carries a commitment to the three important functions of instruction, research, and outreach, as well as professional and university service as appropriate to faculty rank.


Responsibilities:

Principle duties to include:


1) Build an ambitious and independent, imaginative research program that complements the Department's strengths in cutting-edge biochemical research.


2) Interact effectively with colleagues within the department and across campus.


3) Teach in the UW-Biochemistry undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Provide support for education within graduate programs.


4) Promote an inclusive and diverse climate within our campus and communities.


5) Contribute to faculty governance and participate in outreach through university and professional service.

Terminal Degree

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Biochemistry or related field, by the start of the position.

Candidates for a tenured position must possess a sustained record of professional achievement as indicated by outstanding research and publications, teaching, and other activities.


Viable candidates will demonstrate a record of or potential for:

1) individual and collaborative extramural grantsmanship with publications in impactful journals;

3) contribution to outreach and service functions of the Department, College, University and professional societies.
