Description:

Our LABORATORY MEDICINE AND PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT has an outstanding full-time position for a Research Scientist 2. This position will serve in the Virology Laboratory to support research looking at viral replication, viral-host protein-protein interactions, drug efficacy, viral evolution, and viral genome sequencing fields.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Organization of laboratory including chemical and biological safety, ordering, and processing orders;
  2. Writing, editing, and submission manuscripts;
  3. Sequencing and proteomic analysis;
  4. Independently execute documented protocols for quantitative viral detection on research and clinical specimens;
  5. Perform molecular procedures including but not limited to real-time PCR, sanger sequencing, PCR product detection DNA sequencing and next generation sequencing;
  6. Prepare chemical, DNA, and RNA reagents used in laboratory assays;
  7. Engage in developing novel assays, modifying and refining procedures and techniques to obtain optimal results;
  8. Present and update research progress at lab meeting or joined group settings;
  9. Assist in identifying research project goals; initiates small to moderate size program/projects; work is organized and prioritized appropriately.
  10. Optimize protocols and troubleshoot experiments are necessary to generate relevant data and improve data quality;
  11. Perform other duties as required.

Education Requirement:
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field.
Years of Experience:
One (1) to three (3) years of working experience in molecular biology related fields. DESIRED: Experience with PCR testing..

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Will be considered essential staff and as such will be required to report to work when scheduled despite inclement weather.
  2. Must be able to meet with all shifts on a regular basis.
  3. May work weekends and holidays.
  4. May be asked to work hours beyond normal open hours of the laboratory depending on staffing needs and current testing requirements.
