The University of Nebraska, Lincoln and the Nebraska Center for Virology is seeking two postdoctoral fellows to conduct research on vaccines for the protection against viruses such as influenza and Zika virus. Our research focuses on designing novel vaccine candidates that can induce broadly protective neutralizing antibodies against viruses. We are currently focusing on developing vaccines against Zika and influenza (Human and Swine) virus. Our research is currently conducting research funded by the National Institutes of Health: Rapid Manufacturing of Universal Flu Vaccine and USDA: One Health Universal Swine Influenza Vaccine  to develop and evaluate influenza virus vaccine candidates.

We are seeking to fill a Post-Doctoral Research Associate or Scientist position with a candidate that is highly self-motivated with a passion for investigating vaccines that have the potential to directly impact and improve the quality of life for both animals and humans.

Preferred Experience:

  • • Experience in working with viruses (Adenovirus, influenza and Zika virus)
  • • Experience in working with laboratory animals (injecting, collecting blood samples).
  • • Experience in various molecular biology, biochemistry and immunological techniques including PCR, gene cloning, recombinant protein expression and purification, and immunoassays (ELISA, Western blot, ELISPOT, FACS).
  • • Experience with bioinformatics and phylogenetics including PAUP, Geneious, MrBayes, etc.
  • • The successful candidate is expected to run research projects, write manuscripts, present data at national and international conferences.
  • • Responsibilities will also include assisting the PI in writing progress reports, grant proposals, protocols of animal experiments, assist in supervision of Ph.D. students and research associates
