Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center: Vaccine & Infectious Diseases Division
The Vaccine and Infectious Disease and Clinical Research Divisions (VIDD and CRD) of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC) seek applicants for a full-time faculty position as Assistant or Associate Professor in the clinician/scholar track to serve as Outpatient Clinic Assistant/Associate Director for our clinical service. The position also serves as Physician Director to develop a new Outside Consult Request Service. The FHCC is a comprehensive cancer center with ambulatory clinical facilities (formerly the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance) and an ongoing dynamic partnership with University of Washington (UW) and Seattle Children’s Hospital. This position carries a joint appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor (without tenure for reasons of funding [WOT]) in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, UW. Salary and academic appointment will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. This position would have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position will have clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities. In addition to clinical duties, the candidate is expected to pursue scholarly activities including publishing in the field of infectious diseases. The candidate will also be expected to teach and mentor infectious disease trainees at the student, resident, and fellow level.
This position will serve the clinical health and safety needs of the FHCC patient population as well as the employee community in the context of an anticipated clinic expansion in 2023. The candidate will build a nationally and internationally recognized program in patient care for infectious diseases in the immunocompromised host, which will advance scientific investigation and training of the next generation of experts in this area. The candidate’s role as the Outpatient Assistant/Associate Clinic Director for our service at the FHCC will involve building and managing a national and international consultation service. The incumbent will serve as the Infectious Disease faculty liaison for the FHCC Employee Health and Safety programs and support employee vaccination programs and other efforts in collaboration with Infection Prevention. The successful applicant will be an active clinical member of the Infectious Disease Consult Team, providing direct patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient departments while supervising our Infectious Disease Advanced Practice Providers and nurse. Importantly, the candidate will serve as the primary liaison to Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and Hematology/Oncology teams and services and allied subspecialty teams such as Pulmonary/Critical Care. This position will have a significant scholarly component, which will establish the faculty member as a leader in their field. Areas of potential research include the epidemiology of infections in the immunocompromised host, interventional trials to reduce the burden of infectious complications in cancer patients, and innovative strategies for protecting employees from major seasonal and pandemic pathogens. This individual will work closely with the Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship teams.
The primary appointment will be in VIDD at FHCC, with a secondary appointment in CRD and the UW Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine.

Applicants must have an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified or eligible in Infectious Diseases. Applicants must also be trained through an ACGME-accredited fellowship program in Infectious Disease. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent, as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
