Description:

We are seeking a Senior Custom Research Scientist with experience in virus propagation and cell-based assays. This candidate would be responsible for overseeing a team who are responsible for fulfillment of customer requests for custom viral research projects. The senior scientist will lead development for a pipeline of new viral custom research capabilities by independently designing and overseeing and reporting on performance and experiments by a team of scientists using virology and molecular biology techniques. This candidate will also be responsible for overseeing a variety of viral assays employing molecular and immunological techniques. Our ideal candidate will have experience with several virus systems.

Some key responsibilities to be expected of a successful candidate will include:

  • • Lead custom research projects in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory settings of taxonomically diverse RNA and DNA viruses and associated cell culture systems.
  • • Lead and perform routine and custom cell-based assays to determine virus quantification and virus neutralization such as plaque assays, TCID50, IC50 and PRNT.
  • • Lead the development of recombinant virus and viral transduction of mammalian cells.
  • • Perform advanced molecular biology techniques including BAC and plasmid cloning, mutagenesis, genome editing, PCR and sequencing (NGS).
  • • Development of new virus system assay and production pipelines.
  • • Identifying, evaluating and validating new technologies for measuring virus and viral components with accurate and precise concentrations.
  • • Document research using GLP standards when appropriate to support new product design controls including validations, verifications, scale up and tech transfer to manufacturing, as well as technical and customer support departments. Utilize statistical analysis and graphing software.
  • • Prepare reports with assay and production data. Present data to wide audience.
  • • Serve as subject matter expert in multiple technical disciplines including virology, molecular biology, genomics, and/ diagnostics.
  • • Work Collaboratively with other functional units including Manufacturing, Operations, Assay Development and Sales and Marketing to uncover new technologies and commercial opportunities.

Education Requirement:
• Ph. D. in relevant field Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, or Biochemistry AND 5-7 years of relevant industry experience OR • M.S. in relevant field Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, or Biochemistry with 14+ years of relevant industry experience
