About Us:

Only seven human viruses cause nearly 20% of cancers world-wide. Our lab discovered two of these seven viruses: Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV or HHV8) in 1994 and Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV) in 2008. This work has been recognized by the Robert Koch Prize, the GM Mott Prize, the Ehrlich Prize, Passano Award and other awards. Former postdocs and graduate students from our lab are now full, associate and assistant professors, and are leaders in biotechnology and in public health. Our group is small but collaborative with research members working and supporting each other in their research. We do not focus on a single technology or technique but instead focus on interesting questions and then learn the technologies needed to answer these questions. Training in our laboratory provides an ideal environment for initiating a career in independent biomedical research.
