Multiple Postdoctoral and/or PhD candidate positions in virology, microbiology, cancer biology, and structural biology are immediately available in the Dr. Hongmin Li's lab at the University of Arizona, Tucson (https://www.pharmacy.arizona.edu/directory/profile/hongmin-li-phd ). The Li lab focuses on both basic biology and development of therapeutics against human pathogens such as Dengue virus, Zika virus, SARS CoV-2, Cryptococcus fungi, and mycobacteria, as well as cancers and autoimmune disorders. Current projects include development of antivirals, antifungals, anti-cancers and autoimmune disorders by targeting essential disease-causing genes. Both small molecule inhibitors and antibodies are pursued. Additional projects include structural and functional studies of essential proteins and/or complexes of viruses, microbes, and human origin with an emphasis of membrane proteins/complexes as potential drug targets. The candidates will perform experiments related to basic biology and therapeutic development, including, but not limited to, molecular genetics, cell culture, immunofluorescence, antibody development, microbiology, virology, cancer biology, in vivo mouse models, crystallography, cryo-EM, and membrane protein preparation, characterization, and/or structure determination. The positions will be funded for 1-3 years or longer if needed, and come with full benefits. Highly motivated and creative individuals with rich experience in cryo EM, crystallography, protein expression and purification, membrane protein characterization, virology, mycology, Cryptococcus fungi, mycobacteria, breast cancer, in vivo animal model are particularly encouraged to apply.
