Description:

The Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Université de Sherbrooke (http://www.usherbrooke.ca/dep-microbiologie/) invites applications for multiple tenure-track Faculty positions at the rank of assistant or associate professor in viral and microbial RNA biology and transcriptomics. We seek scientists with expertise in microbiology, genomics, molecular biology, genomics, RNA biology or related fields. Topics of high priority include the transcriptomics and genomics of microbiome, molecular epidemiology, host-pathogen interactions, RNA viruses, drug resistance and bacterial pathogenesis. Candidates must hold a PhD and/or MD degree and at least two years of postdoctoral training with solid track record of publications.

The successful candidate will join 10 RNA biologists in Sherbrooke RNA group and 18 clinical and fundamental microbiologists at the department of microbiology. Being located on the health campus, next to the university hospital and clinical research center, our research environment is ideal to conduct projects involving clinical samples and patients. Our researchers also have access to multiple technological platforms in RNomics, sequencing, digital PCR, mass spectrometry, microscopy and imaging. The Université de Sherbrooke has built a critical mass of expertise in RNA biology (small RNAs, telomerase, splicing) and cancer (colorectal, breast and ovarian), leading to the development of a dynamic academic and technical infrastructure (e.g. RiboClub, www.riboclub.org, a RNomics platform, https://rnomics.med.usherbrooke.ca, and a Cancer research axis, http://cr.chus.qc.ca/axes/cancer/). Candidates whose research program involves pathogens will have access to a state-of-the-art BSL-3 facility to be built in a new research pavilion dedicated to personalized medicine and translational research. The Successful applicant will be given generous startup funds and offered a mentoring program to connect them to both local, national and international resources. Possibilities of creating collaborations across the faculty and university also exist since research projects in bacteriology and virology are also conducted in the Department of Biochemistry (https://www.usherbrooke.ca/dep-biochimie/) and Biology (Faculty of Sciences, https://www.usherbrooke.ca/biologie/).

The successful candidate is expected to maintain a competitive externally funded research program and participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Candidate should have working knowledge of French or commitment to learn French within the first 5 years of their appointment.
