This is a permanent full-time Research Microbiologist position at the Exotic and Emerging Avian Viral Diseases Unit , Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory , U.S. National Poultry Research Center, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, in Athens, GA. The mission of the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) is to provide scientific solutions to national and international exotic, emerging and endemic poultry viral diseases through a comprehensive research program emphasizing basic and applied research in diagnostics, prevention, and control strategies, prediction of disease outbreak, molecular epidemiology, and understanding disease pathogenesis.
The job responsibilities for this position are:
-Developing improved diagnostic assays to support the need of the poultry industry as technology and viruses continue to change.
-Understanding ecology and evolution of Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) in domestic poultry and wild birds.
-Developing improved vaccines and understanding the role of viral and host factors in viral pathogenesis.
