Description:

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a team leader formulating, planning and performing research in the area of the immunology of polioviruses and other picornaviruses, including overseeing testing of specimens from vaccine clinical trials. Position will also play a key role in CDC's laboratory investigations into the etiology and pathogenesis of acute flaccid myelitis.

As a Lead Research Microbiologist you will:

Serve as a research team leader planning and conducting applied and basic research on polioviruses and other picornaviruses in the following areas: identification and immunology of polioviruses and other picornaviruses. 

Lead and guide professional and technical staff GS-14 and below in the implementation and conduct of research for the study of molecular pathogenesis and immunology.

Serve as a nationally/internationally recognized expert, program manager, or program coordinator in the areas of immunology, vaccine efficacy, and population immunity of polioviruses and other picornaviruses.

Lead the team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established work flow, skill level and/or occupational specialization.

Train or arrange for the training of team members in methods and techniques of team building and working in teams to accomplish tasks or projects, and provide or arrange for specific administrative or technical training necessary for accomplishment of individual and team tasks.

Perform comprehensive studies, coordinate preparation and analysis of background information documents and control techniques, evaluate data and recommend agency action.

Salary:
$110,231 to $143,304 per year
Notes:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience formulating, planning and performing research in the area of the immunology of polioviruses and other viruses.
