Vir Biotechnology, a San Francisco based-company focusing on infectious diseases, seeks Research Associates to help driving efforts in the discovery and development of novel therapies for the treatment of infectious diseases, including HIV, HepB, HPV, TB and Influenza. The successful candidates, under the guidance of other Scientists in the company, will participate in discovery and translational research efforts aimed at identifying and characterizing novel therapeutic targets, investigating mechanism of action of therapeutics and defining optimal drug combinations through evaluation in the appropriate in vitro and in vivo models. You will work cross-functionally in a highly collaborative research group and with other divisions of the company to advance programs from discovery into development.
Works under supervision of scientists to conduct scientific research for the development of novel therapies.
Applies knowledge of scientific methods, quantitatively and qualitatively.
Create day-to-day activities keeping accurate records of experimental details and results related to assigned projects.
Responsible for the execution of basic research activities utilizing expertise in the areas of molecular biology, cell biology and microbiology.
Writes protocols and technical reports.
Maintains project timelines and participates actively in team meetings.
Participates in the development and conduct of laboratory meetings, updating group members on background and status of projects by giving oral updates and/or internal presentations.
Assists in ordering supplies, making reagents and maintaining the laboratory to conduct necessary experiments.
Maintains equipment, biosafety cabinets and lab area in clean working condition.
Actively seeks opportunities to improve performance continuously.
Qualifications and Experience:
Impeccable cell culture and sterile technique with demonstrated experience in maintenance, expansion, and cryopreservation of cell lines and familiarity with various transfection methods including lentiviral transductions.
Knowledge/Experience with various cell-based assays (viability/cytotoxicity, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, apoptosis, growth assays)
Proficient in molecular biology techniques, such as nucleic acid isolation and digestion, DNA cloning (overexpression constructs, reporter constructs), PCR/q-PCR, Western Blot, ELISA
Experience and proficiency in laboratory methods pertaining to infectious disease models and host-pathogen interactions, including infectivity, replication, colony, plaque assays
Knowledge of relevant in vivo models of infection
Basic understanding of library preparation for next-generation sequencing, CRISPR screens and RNA Seq is preferred.
Ability to work in a high paced team environment, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing work from multiple projects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work in inter-disciplinary and cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
BS/MS in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant post-undergrad/graduate lab experience.
