Vir Biotechnology (Vir), a San Francisco company focused on infectious disease seeks Research Associates to help drive new efforts in the discovery and development of novel therapies for the treatment of infectious diseases including HIV, HepB, HPV, TB and Influenza. You will work within a highly collaborative group focused on infectious disease research. The successful candidates, under the guidance of other Scientists in the company, will participate in discovery and translational research efforts aimed at identifying and characterizing novel therapeutic targets, investigating mechanism of action of therapeutics and defining optimal drug combinations through evaluation in the appropriate in vitro and in vivo models. You will work cross-functionally and be exposed to other groups within the company to advance programs from discovery into development.
Works under supervision of scientists to conduct scientific research for the development and evaluation of novel therapies.
Applies knowledge of scientific methods, both quantitative and/or qualitative.
Create day-to-day activities keeping accurate records of experimental details and results related to assigned projects.
Responsible for the execution of basic research activities utilizing expertise in areas including immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, and more.
Cleans lab area and biosafety cabinets, maintains production equipment and facilities in clean working condition.
Writes protocols and technical reports.
Assists in ordering supplies, making reagents and maintaining the laboratory to conduct necessary experiments.
Participates in the development and conduct of laboratory meetings, updating group members on background and status of projects by giving oral updates or internal presentations.
Maintains project timelines and actively participates in team meetings.
Actively seeks opportunities to continuously improve.
Qualifications and Experience:
In-depth knowledge of immunology, molecular biology, or microbiology.
Several years experience with tissue culture required, including the maintenance of various cell lines, primary human immune cells, and the isolation of immune cells from peripheral blood or apheresis materials.
Experience working with infectious pathogens and flow cytometry is strongly preferred, but not required.
Knowledge of molecular biology techniques: Nucleic acid purification, electrophoresis, PCR, and cloning (various methods).
Ability to work in a high paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work from multiple projects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work on inter-disciplinary and cross-functional teams.
Desire and demonstrated ability to quickly develop new technical skills, ability to think independently, be results oriented and have strong attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required. Proficiency with flow cytometry software (FlowJo, SPADE, SPICE, Cytobank) and other data analysis tools (Prism) is preferred.
BS/MS in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, virology, chemistry, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of lab experience.
