Proposed Job Requirements

Required Education: PhD with specialization in Virology

Preferred Education: PhD in plant biology, microbiology, biochemistry, plant pathology

Required Experience: 2-5 years research in biotechnology laboratory

Preferred Experience: Experience in bioinformatics and transcriptomics is desirable. Lead investigations of viral genome functions in plants and protoplasts. Must demonstrate analytical skills sufficient to troubleshoot data analysis problems and make recommendations. Broad range of molecular techniques: Cloning, immunoblot, protoplast isolation and transformation, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR. Good writing skills and can compile figures for manuscripts.

Required licenses, certifications, or registrations: Driver license

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills: Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish effective working relationships.

Preferred special knowledge, abilities, and skills: Ability to handle multiple tasks in

parallel while working on multiple projects. Knowledgeable about viruses with negative strand RNA genomes.

Other requirements or other factors: Initial appointment is for one year and is renewable depending on funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Job Duties

Carry out technologies including quantitative RT-PCR, GFP imaging, working with virus infectious clones, immunoblot, co-IP.

Carry out genetic and biochemical studies

Cloning and mutagenesis technologies

Comparative virus infection/transcriptomics in roses, N. benthamiana, and Arabidopsis

Install, maintain, and operate laboratory equipment and assist with available laboratory supplies and procurement as necessary

Utilize computers to generate graphics, statistical displays, train technicians and graduate students in planning and conducting of research and data analysis.

Maintaining populations of mutant Arabidopsis lines
