The University of Wisconsin-Madison Institute for Molecular Virology (IMV), in collaboration with the Departments of Oncology / McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, or Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, seek to hire a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in DNA Virology. The faculty hire is expected to develop a robust research program aimed at generating new insights into how DNA viruses replicate, persist, and cause disease. Candidates working on all aspects of DNA viral infections will receive full consideration, but with preference given to those focusing on DNA viral genome 3-D structure or epigenetic modification, or links between DNA viruses and antiviral defenses including intrinsic, innate, or adaptive immunity.
This position is part of a unique, synergistic cluster hiring initiative, "The Metastructures of Viral Infection", which focuses on bringing new faculty to campus studying epigenetic modifications and structural interactions driven by viral infection. There are expectations for synergy with the two other cluster hire faculty that focus on Viral RNA Biology or Cryo-EM-dependent Structural Virology. The IMV and tenure home department will act as interactive partners in this hire and will mutually support this position with substantial, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and other resources. The primary department affiliation will be determined after consultation with the successful candidate based on the scope of their research program. Additionally, the successful candidate will become a member of the Madison Virology Program, joining a vibrant community of virologists that complement and strengthen the UW's outstanding breadth in biological research.
This position is a 12-month faculty appointment at either the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenured) level, depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant. Applicants must have an MD or a Ph.D. in a biological or biomedical science and should display a productive record of established scholarship of national and international significance in DNA virus research.
