University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Categories:
  • Post Doctoral Position - Academic
Job Type/Arrangement:
  • Full Time
Description:

The laboratory of Professor Roy Dar (http://dar.bioengineering.illinois.edu/) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign focuses on the fundamentals and applications of biological noise in gene circuits and networks for decision-making, drug screening, and viral-host relationships. Dr. Dar is affiliated with the Biophysics and Electrical Engineering departments, and the Institute for Genomic Biology, so members of his research group gain valuable interdisciplinary research experience.

A representative list of recent projects and publications include:

Fundamentals of Noise, Gene Circuits, and Decision-Making: (Weinberger et al., Nat Genet 2008; Dar et al., PNAS 2012; Bohn-Wippert et al., Cell Rep. 2018)

Noise Drug Screening and Modulation:

(Dar et al., Science 2014; Megaridis et al., APL BioE 2018)

Viral-Host Relationships:

(Bohn-Wippert et al., Nat. Commun. 2017; Bohn-Wippert et al., Cell Rep. 2018).

Integration of Genome-wide Datasets: (Dar et al., Chaos 2010; Dar et al., PLoS ONE 2015; Bohn-Wippert et al., Nat. Commun. 2017)

Our lab currently consists of a postdoc, 4 graduate students, and 4 undergrads.

The ideal applicant should have but is not limited to:

 A PhD degree in a related field (systems biology, virology, molecular biology, biophysics, bioinformatics etc) received in the last 3 years.

 Strong quantitative background in systems biology and computation.

 Computational genomics experiences (high throughput sequence or perturbation RNAseq, scRNA-seq, and microarray analysis, etc.).

 Experimental background in BSL2 environment.

 Strong programming skills: Matlab, (Python | C | C++ | Java), R.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter with CV to roydar@illinois.edu with subject line “<LAST NAME>: Postdoctoral application”.
