(Ref#: 329074 / 329071)

University of Minnesota

Categories:
  • Post Doctoral Position - Academic
Job Type/Arrangement:
  • Full Time
Description:

Two postdoctoral positions are available in the new laboratory of Dr. Alon Herschhorn at the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Minnesota.

We are a new and energetic research group that works on exciting directions to understand and target HIV-1 host interactions at the molecular and cellular levels. We use interdisciplinary approaches at the interface of synthetic and molecular virology, immunology and cell biology to gain new insights into complex biological processes, with the aim of translating these insights into novel therapies and vaccines to treat and prevent viral infections.

Research directions include the study of HIV-1 evolution and adaptation, biology of HIV-1 entry, HIV-1 interactions with neutralizing antibodies, design of novel immunogens, vaccine development, and molecular mechanisms underlying the interactions of HIV-1 with the cellular machinery. Some of the work is done under BSL2+ environment.

The positions are available immediately for highly motivated candidates. Successful candidates should have an MD or Ph.D. degree in microbiology, virology, cell biology, immunology or a related field; and advanced knowledge in molecular and cellular biology techniques. Applicants with virology / retrovirology backgrounds who 1) are experienced in handling animals with previous work with mice and/or rabbits, or 2) have previous experience with RNA-seq, including single-cell RNA-seq technology, to analyze viral interactions with cellular factors are encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should email the following documents as a single PDF file to Alon Herschhorn, Ph.D. (aherschh@umn.edu):

1.    Cover letter indicating research interests

2.    Expected starting date

3.    Curriculum vitae including a list of publications

4.    A one-page summary of previous research experience

5.    Names and contact information of 3 references
