The candidate will implement and supervise research efforts as well as the general operation of the laboratory whose main focus is the study of viral respiratory diseases of poultry.

Assist with the design and development of multiple research projects as directed by the principal investigator (PI). Following the PI directive, the candidate will manage the implementation of multi-laboratory projects, supervise research efforts and performance of undergraduate and graduate students.  Percentage of time: 20% 

Independently organize and analyze research data, perform statistical analysis, prepare reports and present findings in scientific meetings. The candidate is encouraged to write peer review manuscripts under the guidance of the PI.   Percentage of time: 20%

Perform and maintain virus stocks and cell lines. Perform virus isolation, propagation and titration of viral stocks and diagnostic samples in primary cell cultures and cell lines, maintain depository of viral stocks and cell lines.  Percentage of time: 20%

Establish, perform and apply molecular biology and immunology assays such as conventional and real time PCR, immunofluorescent and immunohistochemical straining, nucleic acid sequencing, western blot, antibody purification.  Percentage of time: 20%

Maintain operating budgets and all laboratory functions including: ordering supplies, maintenance of equipment and instrument calibration, comply with all the safety regulations of hazardous waste, biosafety, and chemical inventory of the laboratory.  Percentage of time: 20%

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree (MS) derived from graduate work in the field of virology. Training including knowledge and experience in classical and molecular virology.
