Description:

The Department of Immunology and Microbial Disease at Albany Medical College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position. We seek candidates who will establish an extramurally funded research program using innovative approaches to address impactful questions in immunology and microbiology. This position provides an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative department emphasizing infectious disease pathogenesis and mechanisms of protection. The department has outstanding research facilities, including a flow cytometry core, microscopy suite, in vivo imaging resources, and BSL-3/ABSL-3 facilities approved for select agent work. Current department faculty have a strong history of external funding in immunology, bacterial and viral pathogenesis, and molecular mechanisms of disease.

Albany Medical College is one of the oldest medical schools in the country and is part of Albany Medical Center, the largest medical center in northeastern New York. The college has over sixty basic science faculty members in four departments: Immunology and Microbial Disease, Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Regenerative and Cancer Cell Biology, and Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics. Its proximity to the Albany Medical Center campus fosters a collaborative culture that extends to translational research with clinical faculty. The college supports new faculty through a Junior Faculty Development Program designed to enhance academic and professional growth through a yearlong curriculum focused on research, teaching, and leadership. Albany, NY, is centrally located between the Adirondack and Catskill mountains, Lake George, the Hudson Valley, the Berkshires, and Vermont and is convenient to New York City, Boston, and Montreal.

A Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and three years of post-doctoral experience are required for appointment at the Assistant Professor level. A commitment to excellence in teaching is also necessary, as department faculty have an essential role in the college's graduate and medical education missions. Candidates with a record of independent research productivity and funding will be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level.
