Research Technician in Molecular Virology

Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Categories:
  • Lab Technician
Job Type/Arrangement:
  • Full Time
Description:

Our research addresses the mechanisms of virus infection and virus assembly, using non-pathogenic viruses as model systems to study these processes at the molecular level. We are looking to hire a laboratory research technician to assist in our multi-disciplinary research projects in molecular virology (https://sites.google.com/site/kielianlab/ ).

Research on viral entry and exit pathways is critical to understanding the interactions of viral and host cell proteins during infection and to the development of new antiviral therapies. Our research focuses primarily on alphaviruses and flaviviruses, virus groups that include important human pathogens such as dengue, West Nile, and chikungunya viruses. The position involves training in and use of a wide variety of methods in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, cell biology, and virology. The position includes some general lab organization, ordering, and maintenance of computer-based records of methods and reagents. The lab has many interesting research opportunities and a collaborative and friendly atmosphere. The technician will be expected to participate in the scientific activities of the laboratory, including attendance at lab meetings and preparation of research results. The ideal candidate should be willing to make a two-year commitment. Candidates must be available for an interview in New York.

Requirements:
•    B.A. or B.S. in science. A strong scientific background including extensive lab courses, and excellent quantitative and organizational skills.
•    A strong research background and research experience are needed, but specific experience in virology is not required.  Of greatest importance is a keen drive and interest in helping us advance our research in virus infection mechanisms.
•    To apply, please submit a detailed CV and the names and contact information for 2-3 references that are familiar with your experimental skills.
